Digging Deep on the Nature of Love: a Man’s Perspective

I was talking with a few good friends. These men are among my kindred spirits and the discussions we get into are often deep, meaningful, even profound. On this particular occasion, the question was asked, “Can you and do you give yourself love?”

Now, we are a hodgepodge collection of businessmen, entrepreneurs, educators, craftsmen and such – just ordinary guys living ordinary lives doing ordinary things (though in extraordinary ways, which is probably why we respect each other so much). So the question hung in the air for a few moments of awkward silence while we dug a little deeper into ourselves than we had expected to.

This Year’s Dreams

My wife and I sit on an antique rug that softens the old, wide-planked, hardwood floor. We are warmed by a gentle fire in our room at a quaint B&B about an hour or so from home. As is our long-time New Year’s tradition, our celebration is more ceremonial in nature as we say thank you and goodnight to the year that brought us to this moment, and welcome the new one in quiet, cozy comfort.

HOW TO FIND EASE IN THESE CHALLENGING TIMES

The Northeast is still recovering from a pre-Halloween freak snowstorm that left millions without power and caused many millions of dollars in damage. My back deck looked like a bad day in mid-January of a bad winter, blanketed nearly a foot-deep in snow. Our nearby trees were cracked, split, and splintered in an eerie tableaux of strangely beautiful destruction.

Happy 11/11

Today is 11/11/11! It’s believed by many to be a significant day, a portal to a higher vibration. Being pretty sensitive to energy, I tend to lean toward that kind of thinking, seasoned with some practical skepticism. But no one knows for sure what it may mean, and whether you buy into it or not, today IS a great day to spend some time on self-discovery.
