There are things in all of our lives that we want to change – from inner patterns to careers to relationships to wealth. Some changes may seem minor and some may seem huge, but change, or transformation, follows a certain process regardless of how big or small, challenging or easy.
As you saw in my story, I followed the process for transforming my active addiction into recovery, a process I later realized was a formula I could use for any change or transformation I wanted to make. This formula is exquisitely simple:
INSPIRATION
+MOTIVATION
+PERSPIRATION
TRANSFORMATION
This is a simple, easy to remember way of looking at the three essential, basic components of change:
1. What do I want to change from and to? (Inspiration)
2. Why do I want to change it? (Motivation)
3. How will I go about changing it? And then take that action. (Perspiration)
Taking action on these three components automatically leads to transformation, to change. And it leads to change in the direction of the desired outcome. Along the way, there are other critical steps, but this simple formula is the foundation to place your focus and effort on.
I’ve used this formula repeatedly in my own work and in work with hundreds of clients over the years (even before I realized it was a formula!), and so far, I’ve yet to see it fail. Its simplicity is its power, helping you stay on track and avoid distractions, denial, and other blocks (all blocks, by the way, are just resistance, stemming from either feeling unworthy, fear, or scarcity thinking. Resistance can’t learn anything. Deal with your resistance and you’ll discover your resilience!)
A word about Perspiration, because some of us are unsettled by the image that word can generate. It is vital that we do the work, but we can do the work with EASE. I developed a program about this, in which EASE stands for Enthusiastic Attitude, Simple Effort. In a nutshell, EASE helps you stay focused on your desire, be passionate about it, and confront and resolve the challenges or obstacles in your life that make life hard to navigate. Replace them with positive, enthusiastic attitudes and simple actions that smooth the way for you to flow with life and with the changes you want to make.
Again, DO THE WORK that supports your Inspiration, do it with the juice supplied by your Motivation, but do it with EASE. It’s not about how busy you are, but how you are busy! If you are doing what you love, the joy is in the doing. This is why the Inspiration and Motivation are so critical – when you are doing what you love, in the way you love doing it, you will have a great experience no matter what the outcome, and you will be transformed.
Here’s a little mantra for you to help guide where to put your attention and energy:
Do more of what you love;
Do less of what you only tolerate;
Do none of what you hate.
Do less, better, with EASE, and to completion. Ask yourself:
• What action will be most effective for my desire?
• What action will be most important to my desire?
• What action will be most meaningful and fulfilling to me?
Take a stand for your desires or dreams, and boldly maintain that stand. Be unwaveringly tenacious, unmoved by doubts, setbacks or criticisms. Everything you ever do leads you either closer to or further from your desired life. Prosperity – in any form – is simply a form of vitality, of energy. So keep it simple and focus your energy where you want it to go.
